As speculation surrounding LeBron James’ future continues, former NBA champion and ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins believes the Minnesota Timberwolves offer the best opportunity for the four-time NBA MVP to compete for another championship.
Speaking on Game Over, Perkins argued that Minnesota has all the necessary pieces in place, needing only a veteran star at small forward to push the franchise over the top.
“If you’re talking about plugging him into a space where he can go now and compete for a title… if you look at what they’re missing, all they’re missing is that quote-unquote small forward to fill that part of Julius Randle that takes them over the hump,” Perkins said.
Perkins also noted that while playing alongside rising superstar Anthony Edwards would “bring joy” to LeBron, the fit is about much more than entertainment. He believes James would provide the leadership, basketball IQ, and postseason experience Minnesota needs to make a legitimate run at an NBA title.
The Timberwolves have emerged as one of the Western Conference’s top teams over the past few seasons behind Edwards’ rapid ascent into superstardom and a talented supporting cast. Adding LeBron would instantly elevate Minnesota’s championship aspirations while giving James another opportunity to compete for a fifth NBA championship.
Although there have been no reports indicating the Timberwolves are actively pursuing James, Perkins’ comments add another intriguing possibility to the ongoing conversation surrounding LeBron’s future.
With rumors continuing to swirl, the NBA world will be watching closely to see where LeBron James will suit up for his 24th professional season.
